The Ministry of Music at Saint Paul's
Saint Paul's has a rich music tradition that spans both traditional and contemporary music. There are many places for you to join in and "make a joyful noise" through our Music Ministry!
Saint Paul's adult choirs lead the music in our traditional services each week. They are two choirs, but one combined family, rehearsing together and singing the same music. Choir members sing at either or both services on Sundays.
The word "family" is significant, as our adult choirs members truly provide a vital support system for one another -- we truly are a large "small group."
The Covenant Singers support the 8:30 a.m. service (and do not generally wear choir robes), while the Chancel Choir participates in the 11:00 a.m. traditional service (and do generally wear choir robes).
The choirs come together to present cantatas at Christmas and Easter, and invite those who are not able to make a year-round commitment to the choir to join for these special musical presentations.
The adult choirs, under the direction of Cynthia Prescott, rehearse on Tuesday evenings, 6:15 - 7:15 p.m., in the Choir Room (lower level of the Sanctuary building).
You do not need to read music, or have any musical training, to join the choir! Everyone is welcome!
For more information about the adult choirs, contact Cynthia Prescott.
The Gate Band
The Gate Band leads worship in The Gate service, our 9:45 a.m. contemporary service, each week. This service features a combination of mostly contemporary Christian music, as is typical to Christian hit radio, along with restyled hymns, classic praise songs and other appropriate musical styles.
The typical makeup of the Band includes acoustic and electric guitar, bass, keyboard and drums, and several vocalists. The members of the Band, just like the participants in The Gate service, cover a wide age range.
The Gate Band, directed by Saint Paul's Contemporary Worship Leader, Justin Crews, rehearses on Thursday evenings in Sanders Hall (typically at 7:00 p.m., but times may vary). Those interested in joining the Band, including on a part-time or fill-in basis, are encouraged to contact Justin Crews for more information.
Se'lah is a group of adult singers who enjoy coming together to make music. Se'lah sings a wide range of music, including folk and contemporary, multicultural, and more traditional pieces. The group participates throughout the year in Saint Paul's worship services, visits other churches to lead in worship, and presents concerts from time to time.
In addition to singing, Se'lah has a history of taking to the mission field. Every few years, the group identifies a mission project to take on; previous trips have taken the group to other states and even outside the United States.
Se'lah is directed by Cynthia Prescott, and rehearses on Tuesday evenings, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
The Youth Choir provides an opportunity for our youth to experience the joy of choral music. The Youth Choir participates in our worship services periodically throughout the year, and also alternates yearly between a choir tour or a musical.
The Youth Choir, under the direction of Cynthia Prescott, rehearses on Sunday evenings during the school year, at 7:00 p.m., immediately following our other Sunday evening youth activities.
Youth Band FUSE
The SPY Youth Praise Band leads worship for our youth program most Sunday evenings. Youth who have musical talents, whether on guitar, drums, or keyboards, or vocals, are encouraged to participate. Rehearsals are on Sundays at 4:00 p.m., preceding the rest of our Sunday evening youth activities.
Contact Youth Director, Matt Jones, for more information.
SPARKS Children's Choir
A part of our Wednesday afternoon SPARKS children's program, the SPARKS Choir gives our children opportunities to grow in their Christian walk and musical talents.
The SPARKS Choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 p.m., and appears several times each year in our Sunday worship services. They also present special programs at Christmas and in the Spring.
Emily Andrews directs the SPARKS Choir.
After a brief hiatus, Saint Paul's is working to reestablish a handbell choir. If you are interested in participating, please contact the church office.
Saint Paul's is blessed to have a number of members with special talents on various instruments. We use these talents periodically to enhance our worship experiences. If you are interested in using your instrumental abilities in this way, please contact Cynthia Prescott, or our Organist, Curtis Smith.
