September 30, 2015: Zechariah 10-12; Psalm 126; Luke 14
Therefore the people wander like sheep;
they suffer for lack of a shepherd.
3 My anger is hot against the shepherds,
and I will punish the leaders;
There is no doubt in reading these words just how much responsibility God places upon those who are called to lead; and just how important it is to lead with integrity and honor. The statement ‘the people wander like sheep…’ is a statement of the reality of the world…so many people who are wandering through life, with no direction, no center, no Christ. But notice too, that the anger of God is not against the sheep, but the shepherds…those who are called to lead the sheep; those who are charged with the task of leading and guiding the sheep.
This passage is not just for pastors (though there is certainly a great message in there for me!) but for ALL leaders – and doesn’t that include all of us? If you are a leader in your home, then you have a particular responsibility to God..the same is true in leadership of the church.
So, may I ask that you pray for me, that I might keep my heart and mind centered on God; that I might be the leader that God has called me to be? I will pray too, that God will strengthen you to be the leader he calls you to be!
