Monday, September 28, 2015: Zechariah 4-6; Luke 12
Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
How often do we, when difficulties or discouragement come upon us, lean into our own strengths and abilities to solve the problem? I know that I do – in fact, it almost seems that the greater the difficulty, the more I try to rely on myself to set it right. These familiar words in Zechariah remind us (me!) that the work that we do for God will be provisioned by God – by the indwelling spirit of God that strengthens and encourages and empowers. It is no wonder that week after week/month after month when we come to the table we ask for God’s Holy Spirit to refill us again…so that maybe next time, our reliance upon God will become a first resort rather than a last.
May I ask you a favor? Pray for me, and for Pastor Pam as we serve in ministry alongside you at Saint Paul's UMC. I am feeling today the burden of courageous ministry - and know so very well that without prayer support and the faithfulness of God that it would be impossible. So, pray for us, as we pray for you, okay? Thanks!
