Saturday, September 26, 2015: Haggai 1-2; Psalms 129; Luke 10
4 Yet now take courage, O Zerubbabel, says the Lord; take courage, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; take courage, all you people of the land, says the Lord; work, for I am with you, says the Lord of hosts, 5 according to the promise that I made you when you came out of Egypt. My spirit abides among you; do not fear.
In Haggai we find another prophet writing about the rebuilding of the second temple in Jerusalem. One of the striking things about this particular passage is the repetition of the word ‘courage.’ Three times in quick succession the prophet calls for courage in the work of rebuilding the temple. And the source of that courage? The presence of God. Work, for I am with you and my spirit abides among you…therefore, do not fear.
Life demands courage doesn’t it? Rebuilding demands courage. It matters not whether you are rebuilding a church, a relationship, a reputation, a new reality…each circumstance requires courageous faith and action. Today I find myself praying for all those in rebuilding situations…praying that they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is with them and that God’s spirit abides among them. Courage!
