One of the core values of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church is that we will be a community shaped by scripture, tradition, reason and experience, and by the Living Word of God revealed in Jesus Christ. The daily reading of scripture is considered to be a means of grace - an opportunity for God to shape and form us into the image of Christ for the sake of others.
We have three opportunities for you to practice the daily reading of scripture, as well as a daily devotional written by our pastor.
If you are new to the practice of reading scripture, start with ONE WORD, a 90 day program of reading through the four New Testament gospels (or stories of the life of Jesus). Once you have established the habit of daily reading, move onto ONE SENTENCE, a 6 month systematic reading of the New Testament, along with the Psalms and Proverbs of the Old Testament. S.O.A.P. is widely used practice that will allow you read the entire Bible over the course of a year, reflecting on your reading and journaling in a systematic way. You may also want to subscribe to MORNING BY MORNING, a short daily scripture reflection written by our pastor delivered to your inbox every day.
